The Training School at CPGS plans and hosts the induction training for all newly appointed teaching assistants in Portsmouth LA's 70+ schools.
The Training School plans and designs a six day programme of phase specific induction training for new TAs. The training is based on the national programme and delivered locally by an expert team drawn from ASTs, Advisers and senior leaders in schools. Three primary cohorts and two secondary are provided for with 100+ TAs being inducted annually. In addition, the Training School integrates a diagnostic skills assessment from Learn Direct into the training and provides follow-up sessions for TAs wishing to gain Level 2 adult literacy or numeracy qualifications. Impact: In three years over 100 TAs have gained L2 literacy or numeracy qualifications increasing their confidence to support pupils' learning.
